Mug: Puriri Tree And Pacific Map (Colored Handle & Inner)

High quality ceramic mug featuring puriri tree flowers and a kiwi on an antique map of the Pacific ocean.

The New Zealand puriri tree (Vitex lucens), also known as New Zealand teak or mahogany on account of its great hardness, has masses of pinky red flowers throughout much of the year. Puriri was first collected (by Europeans) at Tolaga Bay by Banks and Solander during Cook's first visit in 1769. Its nectar and berries are valuable food for native wildlife. When we created the artwork we were inspired by the many beautiful puriri trees in the surrounding forest.
