Mug: Peculiar Fish Found in The Pacific Ocean, 1769 (Stainless Steel Mug)

Polished, insulated stainless steel mug from our Sublime Sea Dwellers collection.
Features peculiar fish observed in The Pacific in voyages of exploration during the 1700s and early 1800s.
Admire unusually shaped fish such as Sunfish, Deep Sea Angler, Pufferfish, Unicornfish, Seahorse and Scorpionfish.
The artwork is inspired by the original scientific illustrations of the period. The extraordinary forms are due to the fact that the artists would often work back in Europe from quick notes and sketches made by the crew or scientists on the voyages.
The banner on the design is evocative of those used on antique maps and natural history illustrations. The year 1769 is on the banner as this is when Captain James Cook first explored the Pacific and visited New Zealand.
In the background are seashells based on a French engraving from the early 1700s.
